How much does a Home Theater or Cinema cost

How much does it cost to build a home cinema or theater?

A question we get asked a lot is how much does a home theater cost to build? Our guide or general guidance on the typical price range for a high-performance home cinema. Prices can vary widely based on factors such as the quality of equipment, room size, installation complexity and personal preferences. Therefore it can be a challenge to give a fits-all answer.

It is also difficult to give prices that are industry wide as all installation companies work slightly differently and may charge more or less for certain services or may offer a different range of choices. However, what we can do is offer insight into rough pricing for the sort of systems that we deliver and the way we create them.

A Starting Guide

There are many competing companies suggest that the cost to build a home cinema or theatre start at £5,000. However these are better delivered as a DIY solution. In fact we would go further and say that if your budget is below £30,000 it is far better value to buy the products yourself and install it as a DIY project as you will get more value buy doing this. As a general guide, a home cinema set up (equipment only) that Prestige Audio would regard as an entry-level but will be high-performance, would cost around £40,000. For this the customer would receive a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround-sound system, a good quality projector matched to the size of the room and around a four-metre screen to enjoy all the action on. The sweet spot, where the performance is at its very best, will be limited to a single seat we call the SWEET SPOT.

High performance home cinema guide

Moving up to the top end of our question “How much does a home cinema or theater cost to build” , £400,000 would secure more channels. This would include a Dolby Atmos 11.1.8 set up with a much wider SWEET SPOT offering most of the seating positions the same level of performance. This type of system would also have a curved screen. This would be approximately five metres wide that alters its ratio to display different content in the correct orientation. 16:9 for broadcast or streamed sport for example or 2.39:1 for premium widescreen format movies. This ensures the viewer always gets all the imagery on offer at the highest quality. This type of system would also have a powerful video processor added. This would ensure that the very best image transitions are delivered for fast moving action and that the best colour accuracy is achieved by getting the best from modern formats such as HDR (High Dynamic Range).

So, like any luxury item or service, prices can vary considerably. It does of course depend on two main factors, the level of performance required and the budget available. However, we would say that when customers experience how good these systems are, it is often the case that budgets are increased as the capabilities delivered are just that superior.
