Assisted Living Technology Advancements

There has been a lot of talk recently in the smart home sector about the concept of assisted living technology advancements and current capabilities. This aspect of our industry is a broad subject and can mean many different things to many different people and different groups. However, to express the essence of the idea, it is the planning and execution of a system that exactly matches any particular needs that the customer has that present them with physical or other challenges in their daily lives.

At Prestige Audio we are already practised in this concept as all of our systems are designed and tuned with our customers specific needs in mind. The assisted living aspect of what we do just means taking this concept a little further and accounting for any individual needs a customer has in their daily life away from aesthetic and performance preferences.

A recent project underlined the importance of this area and what can be achieved as we completed a high-performance home cinema system which is located in a luxury development for the over 65s.

A few of the residents have hearing issues and so our engineers employed a Sennheiser system that enables people to use their own smart devices to again access to a unique audio track that they can listen to on their own headphones. This feed delivers very clear dialogue and presents an experience tuned to those living with hearing loss. You can see a full case study on this project right here.

As world-class cinema installers you might expect us to be all over solutions such as this, and we are, as the concept of assisted living systems extends throughout all of the systems we create from the luxury AV systems to the smart home projects that we deliver.

The adjustment is actually a pretty easy one, just thinking about the holistic needs of everyone who is going to be using the system and creating something that suits their needs. This can range from obvious techniques such installing control points and switches at different heights, right through to creating a special interface that allows a person to control their entire house even if they have limited use of their hands or have other mobility issues.

Assisted living systems can free people from daily tasks that might present them with real issues making life difficult. Controlling curtains, blinds, lights, heating or completing tasks such as answering the door from a personal smart device or via voice control is convenient for all, genuinely life changing for others.

At Prestige Audio we see the growing concept of assisted living systems as merely an extension of what we have always done which is look after all of our customers wants and needs. Delivering systems that chime with their physical needs, is just as important as delivering on any other area and implementing this type of planning and execution is one more way we create satisfied and long term customers.
